A step-by-step guide to the Canadian Study Permit for international students.
Get an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.
Prepare passport, acceptance letter, proof of funds, passport photos, Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) or Territorial Attestation Letter (TAL) and other supporting documents. Master's and Doctoral students at public DLIs are exempt from PAL/TAL requirement (effective January 1, 2026).
Submit your application through the IRCC portal and pay the CAD 150 application fee.
Visit a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in India to submit fingerprints and photograph (if required by country).
Processing typically takes 8–12 weeks for regular applications. You may be asked for additional documents or an interview.
